Backlash 2004
Supertaker’s Take SummerSlam 2004 “You know you are in Bizarro World when a Kane match has a higher star rating than the three matches following him combined… starring 7 world champions.” “Summer games” themed video package and it is a pretty fun one as they hype all of the matches. We are in Toronto, Canada so expect a wiseass crowd. 6 man tag The Dudley Boyz and Spike Dudley (CW champion) Vs. Billy Kidman, Paul London (tag champions) and Rey Mysterio Spike had just turned heel and was “the boss.” Fun useless fact: I haven’t seen this match, as the providers were having problems. London and Kidman did make a good team before the armchair bookers split them because Kidman accidentally injured Chavo with the SSP. Cole needs to chill with saying vintage. There is no such thing as “vintage Spike.” The three Dudleyz work on London. Heels screw up, London hits an enziguri and London hot tags in Rey. Spike kicks out of the dime dropper… wow. Rey hits a top rope rana onto Spike for 2. Why the hell is Spike kicking out of this shit! Seated senton on Bubba! Headscissors on D-von! Kidman enters and hits a flying elbow to Spike, and takes out all the heels. London does a front flip off Kidman’s back to Bubba outside the ring!!! Kidman and Rey nail Spike with the heart attack, into a slingshot into the 619. Kidman goes to the top and hits the shooting star press. D-von breaks up the count, as I thought that was it. Rey crashes and burns trying to hit D von with a plancha London gets killed with a closeline. All the faces are down, and Kidman falls victim to the 3D, and Spike gets the 3. Fun opener **1/2 Winner marries Lita and has to stay with her forever Kane Vs. Matt Hardy Kane fucked Lita, Hardy is defending her, we already know the kid is Kane’s… until Mr. Snitsky is like ‘Kane and Lita are not having a kid.’ After all it wasn’t the kids fault. Hardy got a pin over Kane at Vengeance. Hardy starts on Kane early, and hits a cool modified side effect, standing on the first rope so it was realistic he could actually lift him. Kane’s is bent over the 2nd rope and Hardy drops the leg. He stays on Kane with a tornado ddt for 2. Kane evens the odds with a giant uppercut. Fun so far. Kane pounds on Hardy for a bit, until Hardy low bridges Kane to the outside and hits a plancha. Hardy hits the Twist of Fate on the floor. Hardy wants a count out, but Kane sits up and makes it back at 9. Lita grabs the ring bell. She distracts the ref and Hardy hits him with the bell. WTF! That always backfires! It only gets two. Hardy goes to the top but gets goozled. He fights out and goes for the Twist, but gets pushed off and booted. Kane goes to the top but get crotched. Matt goes to a top rope ddt, but gets gets chokeslammed off the top rope!!! The pin is academic and Lita is forced to be with Kane forever, until she leaves Kane for Edge later on. I suppose the divorce rate is high enough to justify them letting the forever thing slide. This match was a lot better than I remember, with good storytelling and they packed a lot of action into the time they got. I wouldn’t have minded another 5 minutes. *** Randy Orton cuts a promo, but gets interrupted by the John Cena (before he joined the service). Cena leaves and Orton cuts a pretty good promo. How can you get worse at talking? Match one in the best of 5 Series for Booker T’s US Title Booker T Vs. John Cena I like series matches, but this one was rather… well… not very good. They do some back and forth stuff nothing of note though. Booker is pretty pedestrian at this point in his career, and doesn’t look particularly motivated here. Cena hadn’t really gotten good yet. Booker gets a jumping leg lariat and follows with a camel clutch. Seriously Book? Cena powers out, but Book hits a spine buster. Book hits a chinlock. Booker goes for the axe kick but Cena slides out of the way. I like it when he misses and lands on his ass, as he did here. Cena makes a comeback from the devastating camel clutch and chinlock. Book hits a flapjack and spins back to his feet. He picks Cena up, but gets FU’ed out of the blue for the pin. Bad match. ¼* Teddy and Bischoff talk. Why can’t they find anything for that guy? Bischoff trying to turn ECW into WCW would have been cool, especially if Heyman was there. Interconinental Title Batista Vs. Chris Jericho Vs. Edge Batista coming out to no reaction is pretty funny. Batista and Jericho were in the middle of a feud, coming off of Batista KO’ing Jericho with a stiff closeline. I think it was kayfabe, but I’m blanking right now. Toronto shits on the hometown boy Edge, although his face character was pretty lame at the time. You can’t hear the boo’s yet though, JR says he gets a standing ovation. Edge does his 2nd rope taunt and Batista throws him out, just because he can. Jericho and Big Dave go back and forth for a little bit, and Batista hits a powerslam. He goes for the powerbomb, but Edge stops him. Batista hits Edge with snake eyes, but gets dropkicked out. Big boo’s for Edge. Jericho and Edge are in the ring, and the crowd clearly is behind Jericho. Jericho goes for the walls, but gets cradled for two. Jericho locks in the Walls for Jericho, but Batista breaks it and tosses Jericho out. Edge hits his implant ddt, but it only gets two! Edge tries to spear Dave, but Jericho cut him off. Batista spine busters Jericho but Edge breaks up the pin. Batista gets thrown out and Jericho rolls Edge up for two. Big Y2J chants. Jericho hits the bulldog and springboard dropkicks Batista. Jericho turns around and walks right into a spear for the win. Match was a mess. *¼ Kurt Angle Vs. Eddie Guererro This is the WM XX rematch and I think Angle’s 1st match since then. He is with Luther Reigns, and just got off being SD GM, and screwed Eddie out of the belt. Angle starts off with some mat work and Eddie matches it. Crowd starts chanting for Angle. Hmmm… More mat work and Eddie comes out on top. They continue trading holds, until Angle hits a german. Eddie counters and puts Kurt in the ankle lock. Angle counters by jamming his thumb in Eddie’s eye. Angle Slam! Angle puts Eddie in the anklelock… which Eddie counters into a double anklelock, but Angle goes back to just his. Odd match so far. Eddie gets the rope break, but Reigns hits Eddie and Kurt goes back to the ankle lock. Eddie gets to the ropes. Angle puts him in an stf, and a few other locks. Eddie breaks, but Angle takes him back down and gets another modified stf. Eddie gets a jawbreaker and hits Kurt with an Angle Slam. Outside of both of them hitting one Angle Slam each and a german suplex they have been on the mat the whole time. Eddie hits the three amigos. Crowd is silent. Eddie goes up, but Angle pops up and throws his off. Angle Slam reversed into a ddt. Eddie goes up and missed a frog splash. Angle slam connects for two. Angle rips off Eddie’s shoes and puts him in the ankle lock. They bump into the ref and Eddie hit Angle with a shoe and plays possum as the ref gets up. Eddie goes up and hits the frog splash for a close two. However it is literally like the third move he has done in the match to Kurt. Kurt gets Eddie in the ankle lock again and gets the heel hook for the tap out. I liked the taking off the shoe, playing off WM XX, so the finish was good. The match itself though was literally mat wrestling and finishers. Match had no flow and really wasn’t very good, but it more what they tried to do as opposed to a lack of effort. I hate to give these guys this rating, but this match really did suck. *1/4 Also Cena is the only fan favorite to go over so far. Edge was not the fan favorite. Triple H Vs Eugene Eugene was way over at the time, but got shoved down our throats. The most annoying case for me was ruining a very good main event at Vengeance. HHH did do a wicked beat down on Regal, it’s too bad they didn’t do Regal/Trips at Unforgiven. Eugene starts out on top to boo’s. Trips uses Lillian as a shield, then takes control. Eugene does the 10 count punch, but forgets what number he is at on eight and has to count with his hands. Funny stuff, but the crowd isn’t buying it. The E cries wolf again as HHH fakes an injury so he could closeline Eugene. He follows it up with two nice backbreakers. Loud Eugene sucks chants. Triple H tries to make nice with Eugene, but he doesn’t fall for it and gets a rock bottom. People’s elbow reversed into a AA spinebuster. The crowd finally popped for Eugene, that was bad timing. Massive “We Want Taker” chant, as Triple H starts punching Eugene. Ok, I made that up. Eugene starts a comeback but Triple H cuts him off with a sleeper. Sleeper gets two, and comes back. HHH cuts him off, but gets a backdrop for trying the pedigree. Eugene does his hulk up in the corner to no reaction at all. Inverted atomic drop and a closeline, followed by HHH going for a kick and getting caught. In an awesome moment Eugene gives him the bird and stuns him! Crowd did pop for that. Trips hits the floor, and eats the ring steps. Here comes Flair. Big Hogan boot and leg drop gets two. Eugene goes to the top, almost gets pedigreed, but slingshots out of it. Then Eugene hits the pedigree, but Flair puts the foot on the rope. Flair trips Eugene and gets ejected. Flair goes nuts, sadly they edit him screaming FUCK over and over again. Regal comes out and clocks Flair with the knux. Eugene cheers on Regal, but turns around into the pedigree. It really is a shame HHH/Regal didn’t happen, that could have been Regal’s defining career moment. Anyways, this match was a little long for what they were going for, but the last 3-5 minutes were pretty good. Still, another win for a heel. **1/4 Diva Dodgeball The contestants demolish the real divas. Victoria is the only WWE girl still on the roster. Maria and Michelle are still on the roster though. Hmmmm… WWE Championship The Undertaker Vs. JBL (champion) No video package, only a tale of the tape. Not even an awesome JBL promo. Booooo. A lightning bolt comes down and we have fire! Usual awesome entrance for Taker, although his hair wasn’t long enough of at this point. He just doesn’t look right here, and new tights are much better too. Here comes JBL’s limo with a bald new chief of staff Orlando Jordan. Lockup and Taker tosses him out of the ring. Taker smashes JBL’s arm on the ring steps and starts working on the arm. JBL stops old school, and hits a swinging neck breaker. Awkward sidewalk slam from JBL, but he follows with a nice top rope shoulderblock into an elbow drop for two. Taker goes back to the arm, and then gets old school. He follows it with a flatliner, and it gets two. Taker locks in the triangle choke. OJ helps out, but JBL gets up and gets booted down. OJ takes a boot too. JBL takes advantage by working on the knee, including hitting it with a chair. Crowd starts the wave. Fuck them, although I will admit this match has been pretty weak. Taker does a rolling knee bar, and this match is falling apart. Luckily they stop with the cheesy submissions and start brawling. Taker drops the apron legdrop, but can’t capitalize as JBL hotshots him on the top rope. JBL goes to the top, but gets a superplex! That gets two, and the crowd seems to be getting back into it. Taker goes for the last ride, but JBL goes back to the knee, and locks in the a spinning toe hold. He gets goozled, but JBL kicks the knee. Taker gets a weird looking spinebuster for two. Back and forth shots, which Taker wins and hits a nice revolving closeline. Taker hits the snake eyes and a big closeline. That gets two. JBL gets a chokeslam, but Taker takes a second to sell the knee, so it gets two. Taker looks for the Tombstone, but OJ tries to get in and gets tossed out. Taker turns around and JBL kills him with his closeline from hell. My God, that was stiff. It only gets two, as the crowd chants for Taker. Ref bump and a nice double big boot. OJ tosses in the belt as the crowd chants Virgil at him. JBL smacks Taker with the title belt, but the ref is down. OJ counts for the ref, but Taker still kicks out. Jordan gets tossed out, and Taker eats another closeline from hell. Taker flat out no sells that, not even like a sit up. He just kinda popped up like a transitional closeline. JBL starts punching in the corner, but gets the Last Ride. Ref is getting up, but it only gets two. Good nearfall there. Taker looks Tombstone, but OJ runs in with the belt. Taker boots him and grabs the belt. JBL gets a belt shot to the face, but the ref is up. Taker gets DQ’ed and the crowd isn’t happy. Post match, Taker starts beating up JBL. JBL gets bodyslammed onto the limo, and Taker is leaving. JBL is now bleeding. He changes his mind though. On top of the limo and Taker chokeslammed JBL through the limo sun roof to a holy shit chant. Well the first part of the match wasn’t very good. The second half was pretty good. The finish was kind of weak. The post match stuff was pretty cool. Taker had not really hit his stride yet as the Deadman, and the crowd was not really buying his MMA offense. He adapted not too long after this, but this match was pretty mediocre. ** Another heel win too. I don’t think I am going to do the main event any time soon. So I might as well finish what I started. Supertaker’s Take The show started off with two fun little matches, and went downhill from there. The rest of the show looks really good on paper, but it just did not play out well at all. Benoit and Orton was very good, but not enough to save the show…. And now I really doubt many of us want to see it. | | Friday, December 8th, 2006 | | 12:29 am |
Supertaker's Take: No Way Out 2004
Supertaker’s Take No Way Out 2004 I was at Boarders and I read this chapter in Eddie’s book and being there live I thought I would give this whole review thing a shot and start with this show! The show starts with Sable and Torrie Wilson holding hands and walking to the ring. They just had their duel playboy magazine come out, and they are here just to tell us there is nothing they won’t do! Then they leave. Alright then… Cole and Tazz are our hosts Nice opening video package. Looking back I think I shortchanged Brock a little bit. Handicap match for the Tag Team Championship Basham Brothers (with generic music before Kill Bill rip-off) and Shaniqua Vs Rikishi and Scottie II Hotty Good choice in opener. All these guys are solid workers, and having Shaniqua in there adds a fun element. If Kish lost weight, he and Scottie wouldn’t be the worse choice for another tag team on Smackdown today. Scottie and Danny start. Cole wonders if Shaniqua gets the pin if she will be the tag champ. I’m assuming not. They botch a headscissors, dropping Danny on his head and here comes Rikishi. Kish cleans house and tries to stinkface the bitch, but she gets saved. Good tease so it will mean something later. Scottie and Doug bang heads and Doug does an awkward stall n fall. Kip up by Scottie and the W-O-R-M is stopped by a massive closeline by Shaniqua. Slingshot suplex by the Bashams and they take control. She spits on Rikishi and bodyslams Scottie. Scottie proves he is a bitch by trying to choke her as she punches him in the back. Hot tag to the big man. Banzia on Shaniqua reversed into a double toss by the Bashams and Shaniqua gets a close 2. Scottie takes out the Bashams and Rikishi hits a samoan drop and a banzai drop on Shaniqua to retain the titles and knock her out of the E. Fun opening match. **1/2 Goldberg isn’t here yet! Jamie Noble and Nidia actually get a really nice video package. This really was well built and was a cool storyline. Jamie Noble is blindfolded Jamie Noble Vs Nidia Noble is a very good talent, and can actually talk. Its too bad Kash fucked up their recent tag team run, because I doubt he is going to get any sort of push. Nidia does all sorts of stuff like kicking Noble in the ass that Cole finds hilarious. Nidia should have won this match in 30 seconds or gotten DQ’ed with a wicked chairshot for revenge, because there is no way of keeping this interesting even for only say two minutes. Anyways, Noble undoes his mask and does a dragon sleeper for the tap out. Decent comedy match, good storytelling, good storyline, short but still pretty pointless. ¼* Recap of who took Angle out. Angle bitches and Cena interrupts. Cena has a sweet retro Willie McCovey jersey. Cena does a really weak slap and they have a pull apart to hype the match later. I forgot, who did take Angle out? I believe he faked it. The Worlds Greatest Tag Team Vs. APA Bradshaw showed so much promise in this match and the Wrestlemania Smackdown tag title fourway that the WWE fans gave the WWE no choice but to elevate him the main event scene IMMEDIATELY! Shelton and Haas have sweet matching outfits. Sadly Shelton is pretty much at this level again, despite getting a very good push at one point. They might at well reform these two. Bradshaw has an injured elbow that is taped up. So the TWGTT works on Faarooq’s arm. The offense is pretty meaningless when the guy with the taped up arm is on the ring apron though. This heat segment is too long with lots of tags and generic arm offense. Spinebuster and here comes the Wrestling God. It’s kind of weird seeing hot tags without closelines, because everyone but Bradshaw does them, and he can’t because a closeline is his finisher. Powerbomb gets 2. It’s a pier six brawl! Shelton goes upstairs but gets the last call from the top! Haas gets nailed with a still Closeline from Hell! But the arm is hurt and Shelton capitalizes with a superkick on the man who would hold the WWE title for most of the next year for the win. Picked up at then end, but I don’t get the booking. *1/4 Goldberg is here with a Santa’s Sleigh shirt. I watched it for shits and giggles and if you thought it looked pretty awful you will be shocked. It is 2… possibly 3 times worse. He gets security and a video package. Berg really sucks on the mic, I really hate the way Goldberg talks and how he stresses on each syllable. And here comes GM Heyman with a great facial expression of shock/anger. Heyman yells and here comes Brock (without music). Brock tells Goldberg that he wants him to do it… NOW! Heyman freaks out, but Brock wants him now. Goldberg just sits there until Brock calls him a bitch. Off go the shirts. Brock quickly goes for the F5, but Bill slips through and hits the jackhammer as Heyman screams HELP! Over and over. And security escorts Golberg away. Good segment, Brock was improving on the mic. Hardcore Holly and Rhino had a backstage brawl the previous SD. So instead of having them come out and do a filler match they use their brain for once and capitalize on the situation. Brock is in the ring, so Holly runs out and goes after Brock. Brock runs off and Rhino comes running in to start the match. It’s still a filler match, but they don’t flaunt it. I thought this was very good booking. Hardcore Holly Vs. rhYno They start brawling on the ramp. Holly pops in 3 headlock takedowns, which is kinda awkward psychology for the match they are trying to have. Holly hits a few chops and dumps Rhyno outside. Rhyno isn’t over in the least, which isn’t really his fault. I’m glad for him he is being used well in TNA, because he can add something. Rhyno uses his thick legs and does the body scissors, a move he should do in every match that is longer than 5 minutes, because it makes sense and sets up the GORE nicely. Rhyno goes for a suplex and drops Holly’s ribs on the ropes. Holly hits a belly to back suplex, but can’t capitalize. Rhyno whips Holly into the turnbuckle twice, but on the third time Holly hits a desperation closeline out of it. They cut to the Spanish announcers for some reason… Holly wins a punchoff and hits a cool running version of his dropkick. Holly goes up top but gets caught with a superplex for 2. They trade off moves for a bit until Rhyno hits a huge spinebuster. Gore! He gets it but Holly rolls out of the ring before he can get pinned. He almost gets counted out. Alabama Slamma out of nowhere for the pin. Crowd was a little silent, but it was a solid match. **1/4 Smack your TV? What a stupid slogan to get people to watch Smackdown Cruiserweight Title Rey Mysterio with Jorge Paiz (some boxer who is apparently a 2 time world champion) Vs. Chavo Guererro with Chavo Sr. UNDERTAKER IS COMING BACK IN 28 DAYS! THE DEAD WILL RISE.. AGAIN! This is pre Ooh Chavo, but it’s a pretty cool beat. Rey is sporting a cool gold outfit. Chavo is trying to take off Rey’s mask. Rey tosses Chavo out early. The crowd heat is very good here, but just wait till the main event. Rey with a nice headscissors and Rube Goldberg bulldog into a rollup. But those moves only work for so long and Chavo takes control. Springboard sunset and a 619! Chavo Sr grabs Rey though to reverse the West Coast Pop. Paiz decks Sr and gets kicked out. Fun fact: I started a “Jorge” chant. I was trying all night and this one actually worked. Chavo checks on his dad and Rey hits a springboard splash. Throws him in and drops the dime for 2! Sweet stuff. Rey looks a lot more crisp and agile in the ring here, and in my view I really think injuries have caught up to him this year. Rey tries to do a top rope rana, but it’s reversed into a gut buster from the top! Ouch. That gets 2. And Chavo locks in an abdominal stretch. Chavo locks his hands behind his back, which nobody does, but makes a lot of sense. Rey breaks free, but winds up in a sick looking single leg boston crab. Rey tries to come back, but Chavo gets a tilt a whirl into a gut buster! That was really cool. Chavo tries to lock in the single leg again, but Rey fights and gets his bulldog for 2. Chavo tries a gutbuster, but Rey lands on his feet and hits a leg lariat. Rey does a headscissors and Chavo goes into the post. Rey hits some moves and DDT’s Chavo while they are both on the apron. And it looks better than the move usually does. Rey misses a springboard, but Chavo gets a suplex into an x factor for 2. Rey hits a beautiful moonsault for 2. Chavo hits the Gory Bomb for 2. Good fast paced action. 619 connects! West Coast Pop is rolled through into the single leg. Great spot and Rey gets to the ropes. Rey goes to the top , but Sr throws him on to the ropes an Chavo gets the rollup with tight for the win and the title. Great ending, I forgot Sr. was even still out there. The two 2004 PPV matches blew away their 2006 matches. ***3/4 Chavo celebrates backstage, claiming he is a winner and Eddie is not. #1 Contenders match for Wrestlemania XX John Cena Vs. Kurt Angle Vs. The Big Show Cena has a cool prematch rap. Ahhh the good ol days before Cena went into the service. Big Show is the US champion at this point, although he never really defended it. I get why this is #1 contender, but I wish they hadn’t added the stip, because it was obvious Goldberg/Brock was happening at WM XX. And before this match was announced we thought Goldberg/Brock was the title match, so Eddie’s win was predictable. Anyway, here we go. Cena watches as Show dominates Angle. Cena stupidly makes a scene, so Big Show starts beating him up too. Angle hits a belly to belly on Cena, but it goes nowhere as Big Show retakes control and hits the shhhhh cho before we said shhhhh. Sidewalk slam on Angle. Cena tries to help but Show slams him and headbutt’s him. And other slam. And a legdrop. Twice. Angle tries to german suplex Show out of the ring, but Show pushes him and elbows Cena. Angle says fuck this and low blows Show! Good storytelling. Angle and Cena fight at a protobomb gets 2. Three german suplexes for Mr Cena. Show is back and dominating again. He simply stands on Cena’s knee and sometimes less is more. Stalling suplex. Avalanche misses and two dropkicks to the knee helps. Top rope elbow from Cena doesn’t knock him down, but Angle hits a top rope dropkick and it works! Cena hits the FU on Show! Considering Cena did it at Survivor Series, and was going to do it again next month at Wrestlemania, they shouldn’t have allowed that to happen. I mean, did Andre get slammed around by Hogan at WM IV? Angle slam on Cena reversed into a DDT! Angle slam on Show for a 2. The straps are down, but Cena tries a FU, reversed into an anklelock, reversed into a chokeslam! Cena tries to get a quick win with a rollup, but he only gets a 2. Then he gets a chokeslam. Ankle lock on Show! He powers out and Angle gets spinebustered and the 5 knuckle shuffle. FU… but Show breaks it up! Chokeslam on Angle goes nowhere as he gets Angle slammed over the ropes. Ankle lock on Cena… and he taps! **1/2. The story was good, as was the match, but with an extra 5/10 minutes in the middle, it could have been ***1/2 easily. They did not really build up to the huge ending flurry of finishers sequence. Good start, great ending, NO middle at all. Awesome video package for Eddie, as the San Francisco crowd is ready. It’s really too bad Brock/Goldberg was obviously happening at Mania and we already had a #1 contender. Oh well… WWE Championship Brock Lesnar Vs. Eddie Guererro Champion comes out first to annoy the smarks. Eddie comes out “We Lie We Cheat We Steal” as the I Lie… was a couple weeks away. Eddie gets a massive pop. REALLY loud Eddie chants to start. Lock ups to start, which Brock obviously wins. Brock starts out overpowering Eddie and hits a baaaack body drop and a snap suplex. Eddie fires some right hands, but Brock catches him with a knee. Eddie tries to get momentum again, but another knee stops him. They almost mess up a 2nd rope rana as Eddie landed on his head, but Brock saves it with a decent looking powerbomb. Belly to belly suplex by Brock. Brock whips Eddie in the corner and hits an impressive high knee HHH spits out his water in disbelief. Brock hits another belly to belly as Eddie rolls to the floor. Nice air on these power moves btw. Brock keeps Eddie out of the ring with a few knees a few times. Cool psych as Eddie has to fight to get in the ring and snaps Brock’s neck on the ropes and slams Brocks knee into the post a few times. Brock overpowers though and Eddie goes crashing into the post. Brock busts out a sweet stalling fisherman’s suplex, which I’d assume is a Curt Hennig tribute. Brock locks in a body vise. I’d like to point out Eddie does a tremendous job at making his offense look credible against huge men like Brock and Batista. It’s too bad we never got Eddie/Taker that summer. Brock with a big stalling press slam reversed and Eddie gets a dropkick to the knee. Eddie hits the ropes and gets killed with a closeline. Great psych as Eddie is really tenacious, but just can’t seem to overcome Brock’s power. Eddie tries some reverse elbows but Brock chuckles to himself and german suplexes Eddie. Brock works on the ribs some more with some stiff kicks and punches. Brock goes for that big high knee again, but HHH has seen enough and pushes Eddie out of the way as Brock crashes to the floor in a really impressive bump. Eddie capitalizes with a plancha. Back in the ring and Eddie kicks Brock in the knee more and hits a belly to back. As just as things are looking good, Brock chucks Eddie in the air for a hotshot which gets the 1st two count of the match. Brock gets cocky and is talking trash as Eddie does a sweet little reversal leading to an STF… to a huge pop!!! Eddie sees Brock is powering out, so he simply lets go and does a different leg move! After that he goes for a figure 4, but Brock fights out. As Brock gets up Eddie dropkicks the head and goes for another figure 4 to no avail. Eddie tries again to stop Brock from getting up and gets a big belly to belly for his efforts. The SF crowd chants Goldberg. Idiots. Anyways a suplex attempt by Brock is reversed into a flying head scissors! Dropkick to the knee and he gets the figure four on his third attempt! Awesome stuff. I’d also like to point out despite there being a lot of submission/rest holds, the pace is very good, and the story telling is awesome. Brock gets to the ropes, but Eddie doesn’t break until 4! Kick to Brock’s knee and we have a texas cloverleaf… into another STF! Brock powers out though. He gets a german. Cole and Tazz are doing a great job here also. Eddie hits the ropes and walks into a spinebuster for a 2. Brock with a chicken wing body wise. That is quite wise, because logically it would take an assload of energy to get out of that. Eddie breaks running Brock into the turnbuckle. Eddie goes upstairs and misses a missle dropkick. Ouch! Brock yells “Die Eddie” as Vince smiles to himself in the back thinking of the angles he could do if indeed Eddie did die. Eddie fights to get up but a gutwrench suplex for his efforts and is right back in the body lock. He fight out and headbutts Brock three times and a dropkick to the knee then the head. Headscissors! Brock misses a charge and Eddie is looking for his three amigos (although it was not called that yet) and he gets it! Eddie is feeling froggy! Miss! F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 connects but the referee gets hit by Eddie’s swinging leg. Instead of pouting, Brock leaves the ring and grabs the title. The handcuffed monster returns and spears the belt right out of Brock Lesnar’s hand! That would have been hilarious if the police was chasing him the whole way. Anyways Berg is gone (thank God) and Eddie goes for the cover. 1-2- kickout!!! Eddie sees the belt and smiles as the ref is still groggy. Brock is getting up. Swing and a miss. Brock is looking F5 but Eddie reverses into a TORNADO DDT ONTO THE BELT in mid air!!! AHHHH!!!! One frog splash later and we have a new world champion!!!! TV does not do justice on how much emotion was in the crowd and how loud they popped. Celebrating all around as this is an amazing feel good moment. Eddie gives a hug to his crying mother and Eddie grabs a California flag in one hand and the belt with the other. Eddie is on his knees on the stage with the belt in the air as we close the show. My God. I could have lived without Goldberg out there, but that was very good usage of him if they had to and I understand why they did it. Eddie still beat Brock with a badass counter and his finish, it’s not like the spear was the ending. It was almost 30 minutes of just wrestling with kick ass psychology, emotion and storytelling. I honestly cannot find a flaw in this match. ***** Overall: Most of the matches are fun and forgettable. There isn’t a ton of star power, and the show would have been a miss without the main event. The 3 way is fun, Chavo/Rey had an awesome match and the show had an amazing main event. Check it out just for that. Any review comments, tips, and non stupid critiques would be appreciated too. I think I did an ok job on this one, but it’s my first one. Hope you enjoyed it. |
